Comparison
FamPlate vs Paprika: which recipe manager fits your kitchen?
Paprika is a recipe manager you buy once per platform; FamPlate is a free-to-start family kitchen with an AI week planner. By the end of this page you'll know which fits your household — checked against Paprika's own site and App Store listings on October 9, 2026, with Paprika 3 (the current paid apps) and the Paprika 4 open beta kept apart — including where Paprika is the better choice.
Choose in four questions
-
Would you rather pay once?
Paprika 3 is a one-time purchase on each platform. FamPlate is free to use, and FamPlate+ is a subscription that lifts the limits for the whole family.
-
Do you cook from a computer?
Paprika has native Mac and Windows apps. FamPlate has no desktop app; its website is the full app in any modern browser.
-
Who plans the week, and for whom?
Paprika's calendars are daily, weekly or monthly, filled by hand, with reusable menus. FamPlate plans by hand or lets AI fill the empty slots, around each family member's dietary restrictions.
-
Where do your recipes come from?
Paprika 3 saves from websites through its built-in browser and imports from older recipe apps; social import and scanning are in the Paprika 4 beta. FamPlate takes links, social posts, photos, voice and pasted text today.
Paprika 3 and Paprika 4 are not the same thing
Paprika 3 is the version you can buy today. Each platform is sold separately, and its iOS and Mac App Store listings show no in-app purchases.
Paprika 4 has been in open beta since September 28, 2026. Its announced additions include social media import, recipe scanning, clipboard import, nutrition calculation from USDA data and family sharing. Paprika says that after the beta, premium features will require a subscription; the price and release date haven't been announced. On this page, “Paprika 4 beta” means a feature in public testing, not in the paid Paprika 3 apps.
Paying once vs a free plan and a subscription
With Paprika 3 you pay once per platform. With FamPlate you can stay on the free plan as long as you like; FamPlate+ is a subscription that lifts the AI and recipe limits for the whole family, from €4.99 a month, with no free trial.
Which works out cheaper depends on how many platforms you need and how much you'd use. For one person on one iPhone, Paprika 3's one-time price is hard to beat. If a family would use AI planning and imports every week, one FamPlate+ subscription covers everyone in the kitchen.
One cook, or the whole family?
FamPlate is built around a family kitchen: up to four people with their own profiles, each with dietary restrictions, a calorie target and a personal food diary, all sharing one book, one week plan and one shopping list. See the family meal planner.
Paprika 4's beta adds family sharing — inviting family members to join your account. Paprika's help centre also has an article on how Paprika 3 households share, which we couldn't open for this comparison, so check it if that matters to you.
Moving recipes from Paprika to FamPlate
FamPlate can't read a .paprikarecipes file or any other export. You can still bring recipes over one at a time: paste the original website link, photograph the recipe, or copy its text — for example from Paprika's email share — and paste it into FamPlate. On the free plan each one counts toward the 5 captures a month, so start with the dishes you cook most.
How we checked
Every Paprika statement on this page comes from paprikaapp.com, Paprika's user guide and news posts, or its US App Store and Mac App Store listings, read on October 9, 2026 and listed under sources. Rows marked unverified rest on text we could not fully confirm, or on something we did not find in official documentation — which doesn't mean it's missing. Prices are US prices on that date and vary by region. We don't quote ratings or review counts for either app.
FamPlate details come from the product itself; current limits and prices are on the FamPlate+ page. Spotted something out of date? Tell us and we'll correct it.

When Paprika Recipe Manager is the better choice
Paprika is the better choice if you'd rather pay once than subscribe: Paprika 3 is a one-time purchase per platform, and its Windows trial has no time limit (capped at 50 recipes). It's also the pick if you want native Mac and Windows apps, an Apple Watch app, optional cloud sync, a pantry with expiration dates, monthly meal calendars and reusable menus, imports from older recipe software such as MasterCook or MacGourmet, bulk export, or one of its 16 App Store languages. FamPlate fits better if you want a free start, the full app in a web browser, social-post, photo and voice import today, AI that fills the week around your own picks and recipes, and separate profiles, dietary restrictions and food diaries for up to four people. Paprika 4 has been in open beta since 2026-09-28 and adds social import, scanning, nutrition calculation and family sharing, with a subscription for premium features after the beta — check Paprika's news page for what has shipped.

Questions
Is Paprika a subscription now?
Not Paprika 3 — it's a one-time purchase on each platform. Paprika 4, in open beta since September 28, 2026, says its premium features will require a subscription after the beta. As of 2026-10-09 the price hasn't been announced.
How much do Paprika and FamPlate cost?
Paprika 3 costs US$4.99 for iPhone and iPad and US$29.99 for Mac on the US App Store, and US$29.99 for Windows on paprikaapp.com (2026-10-09; prices vary by region). FamPlate is free to use; FamPlate+ starts at €4.99 a month for the whole family, with no free trial.
Can I import my Paprika recipes into FamPlate?
Not as a file — FamPlate can't read .paprikarecipes or any other export. Bring recipes over one at a time by link, photo or pasted text; on the free plan each counts toward the 5 captures a month.
Does FamPlate have a desktop app like Paprika?
No. FamPlate runs as the full app in any modern browser on Mac, Windows or anything else, and as apps on iPhone, iPad and Android. There is no browser extension.
Which one works offline?
FamPlate needs a connection to save changes; it has no offline mode. Paprika's iOS guide says its Cloud Sync is optional — check Paprika's help centre for exactly how it behaves offline.
Does Paprika plan meals with AI?
We didn't find AI meal planning in Paprika's official documentation as of 2026-10-09. Paprika's calendars are filled by hand, with reusable menus. FamPlate can plan by hand or have AI fill the empty slots — see the AI weekly menu planner.
Which is better for a family?
If each person needs their own dietary restrictions, calorie target and food diary inside one shared kitchen, FamPlate is built for that, for up to four people. If the family mostly needs one shared recipe library on Apple devices and desktops, Paprika is worth a close look — and its Paprika 4 beta adds family sharing.
